The second season of Netflix’s “Squid Game” added singers T.O.P and Jo Yu-ri, actors Park Gyu-young, Kang Ae-sim and more to its star-dubbed casting lineup, the streaming service said Thursday.
Park took the leading role in Netflix’s drama series “Sweet Home” (2020-2023), “Celebrity” and Kang, who featured in many plays and musicals, is known for her roles in “When the Camellia Blooms” (2019) and “Move to Heaven” (2021).
Other cast members revealed Wednesday also include Lee David, the actor who starred in films “The Front Line” (2011), “Hypnosis” (2021), dramas “Itaewon Class” (2020) and “Hotel Del Luna” (2019), Lee Jin-uk, who also took a lead role in the “Sweet Home” series, and actors Roh Jae-won, Won Ji-an and more.
T.O.P, a former member of boy band Big Bang, who is also known by his real name Choi Seung-hyun, starred in drama “Iris” (2009), film “Tazza: The Hidden Card” (2014) and more. Jo, who debuted as a member of project girl group IZ*ONE in 2018, started her acting career on Playlist’s 2022 web drama “Mimicus.”
The new cast members will be joining actors Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.
Familiar faces from the first season will also be making a return, with Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo all set to appear in the second season of “Squid Game.”
“Squid Game” swept streaming service charts when it was released in 2021 and became a worldwide sensation, garnering critical acclaim and various awards. The drama series told the story of hundreds of cash-strapped contestants who participate in children’s games for a prize of 45.6 billion won ($35.7 million).
The second season of “Squid Game” will start shooting in the latter half of this year. A release date has not been set yet.
