Chicken franchise Genesis BBQ Group is expanding its Korean fried chicken brand in California. On June 14, the company has officially opened its 40th store in California at West Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Situated on Sunset Boulevard in the West Hollywood area, the new store will offer 12 authentic Korean chicken flavors, including Secret Sauce, a combination of spicy Gochujang (red pepper paste) and tomato paste traditionally known as Yangnyeom Chicken. Additionally, it will serve popular K-foods among other ethnicities, such as tteokbokki and kimchi fried rice, along with a variety of beverages.

“Guests can enjoy the trendy combination of chicken and beer, known as Chimaec, and indulge in Korean-style vodka, soju, and beer,” said BBQ. “We will be introducing a menu of six signature soju cocktails, including the Butterfly Nebula, a captivating drink that changes colors.” Special giveaways will also be provided to commemorate the grand opening.

BBQ Chicken was established in 1995 by Chairman Hong-geun Yoon with the aim of introducing premium Korean chicken to the global market. Just four years after opening its first franchise, the brand has expanded to 1,000 stores and ranks 30th on the annual “100 Most Popular Brands in Korea” list.

In the United States, the company inaugurated its inaugural store on 32nd Street in Manhattan in 2014 and has since grown to encompass 22 states, including California, Washington, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Colorado, Hawaii, and North Carolina, with over 250 stores.

The company asserts that its three franchise models – BBQ Chicken Express, BBQ Chicken Cafe, and BBQ Chicken & Beer – are rapidly gaining traction in the American fried chicken market.

In 2021 and 2022, BBQ was recognized as the second-fastest growing restaurant chain in the United States, according to a survey conducted by Nation’s Restaurant News.

Globally, the company operates 700 restaurants across 57 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Germany.
