The Korea Town Senior and Community Center (KSCC) elected Yong Sin Shin, the incumbent senior vice chairwoman, as its new chairwoman on June 20.

The senior center held its 32nd regular board meeting at Kang Nam Restaurant on June 20 and elected Shin as its ninth chairman.

This is the first time a female board member has been elected as its chairwoman since the senior center opened 10 years ago.

Shin was unanimously elected at the board meeting, which was attended by 20 of the 23 board members (including proxies). She will serve a two-year term beginning July 1 and ending on June 30, 2025.

“I have many shortcomings and little experience, but I will do my best,” said Shin. “I will continue to build on the achievements of senior board members Kee Whan Ha, Hyoung Man Pak, Young Song Lee, and Moon Seop Chung and further develop the senior center.”

Shin has been running BICICI&COTY, a wholesaler of high-end women’s clothing including wedding dresses, for nearly 30 years. She has been a board member of the senior center since July 2019 and is currently serving as the senior vice chairman.

The inauguration ceremony for the new director will be held in August.

Since its founding in 2009, the senior center has been led by Kee Whan Ha (1st and 2nd), Young Song Lee (3rd and 6th), Hyoung Man Pak (4th and 5th), and Moon Seop Chung (7th and 8th).
