Spotify releases listening statistics for K-pop category

Listeners from India were the most active listeners on Spotify’s K-pop Hub, the global streaming service operator said Thursday.

In data released Thursday in celebration of the streaming service’s second year in Korea, Spotify revealed that the top 10 countries that visited the K-Pop Hub after India were Indonesia, the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand and Taiwan.

Spotify also revealed that K-Pop On, the most-streamed playlist on the K-pop Hub, has 4.5 million followers and recorded more than 700 million streams last year, an increase of 65 percent compared to before its launch in early 2021.

The streaming service has also collaborated with several K-pop artists since launching in Korea.

Spotify Radar Korea — which provides emerging artists with human and financial resources, editorial support and both online and offline marketing promotions — has collaborated with rookie girl group Nmixx and female artist Sole. The K-hip-hop Rookies program supported the production of five rising hip-hop artists, and the Spotify Singles project showcased Seungkwan of boy band Seventeen, artist Sunmi and girl group IVE in an attempt to showcase new aspects of artists.

Spotify, having launched globally in 2008, is known as the largest music streaming service worldwide. It launched in Korea on Feb. 2, 2021.
