A cause of injury of a 25-year-old Korean flight attendant who was critically injured in a stabbing at Target in downtown Los Angeles on November 16th was reportedly from attempts to protect the other victim of the incident, a 9-year-old child.
“It is quite different from how it was reported on the news”, said a trauma nurse at USC who aided in the medical transportation of the victims during an interview with KoreaDaily. “Many report that they are unrelated victims, but her wounds are clearly from trying to protect someone else.”
According to the nurse, the flight attendant put her arms around the child victim to safeguard him when the suspect began to chase him after he attempted to flee. The suspect, a homeless man, then stabbed her five times in her back, abdomen, and upper chest. The victim was critically injured in her lungs at the scene, which could have led her into a fatal condition.
“She was selfless, brave but calm. She was more worried about other people’s safety than she did for herself.”
The victim is currently in recovery after surgery at USC Medical Center.
