“We tell you how to converse with your children as well as how to educate them about sex.”

The Korean American Family Services (KFAM) is hosting a child education seminar today and Sunday at the Oriental Mission Church. The lectures will be provided by KFAM counselors.

At the first seminar today, parents’ anger management and effective conversation method with children will be covered between 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“Every parent with a child must’ve felt this way at least once,” said KFAM counselor Hyeon-mi Ahn. “I will introduce methods on how to wisely express anger as a parent as well as understanding the source of their angry tendencies.”

Ahn added that parents can also learn how to create a happy environment for the family.

The second seminar on Sunday will start with “How to provide proper sex education for our children” from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

“The lecture will cover the parents’ role in growth of their children with all things related to sex,” said KFAM counselor Lauren Kwon.

The seminar will help parents to understand how children feel about sex depending on the stages of their life, including youth, school age and puberty. Parents will also learn how to help their children to deal with dangers of unsolicited, sex-related materials.

Both seminars will be followed by a Q&A session. For parents attending with their children, childcare service will be provided.

“Any Korean parent can take part,” said Dong-hee Kim, KFAM’s PR director. “The content of the seminar will center on things that parents have always been curious about. They will be able to obtain a lot of information.”
