Cases involving young women being tricked and forced to appear in adult videos are on the rise in Japan.
According to The Asahi Shimbun, victims sign fake contracts with promises of becoming a model or celebrity, but instead find themselves demanded to perform sexual acts. Victims who refused were blackmailed with threats to reveal their contracts to parents and schools, or were otherwise trapped by severe penalty fees hidden inside of the contract. Many victims had no a choice but to accept.
An international human rights organization, Human Rights Now, exposed the horrible truths behind the Japanese porn industry last year March.
The problem became public after Aroma Kurumin, 26, revealed her face and name through an online video. Not long after, more victims came forward and claimed they were also forced into the porn industry. The Japanese government immediately began measures to solve the issue.
According to The Asahi Shimbun, the Japanese government is expected to implement a full-scale response to this problem by mid-May. Unfortunately, videos and products that have already been released cannot be erased and may hold back victims from moving on.
