Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has started building a new international terminal.

On the 27th, LAX had a groundbreaking ceremony. According to the LAX Board of Airport Commissioners, the official name of the new international terminal is ‘LAX midfield concourse’. The new terminal will be built near the Tom Bradley terminal. A total of $1.6 billion will be invested.

The midfield concourse will be connected to Tom Bradley through underground. International flyers will first check in at Tom Bradley, and then they will be able to go to the new terminal through a 1000-feet-long underground passage. Inside the new terminal, a 4-story-high main hall and 12 gates will be installed.

The new terminal will be 750,000 square feet in total, including a 44,000 square feet wide convenient facilities and 60,000 square feet wide airline lounges. If the terminal is completely built at the end of 2019, two new gates only for Airbus 380 and Boeing 747-8 will be added.

LAX announced, “when the new international terminal is built, boarding process and baggage handling services will be much more improved”. The conceptional view of the new terminal is available here:
