The 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, a hub for the latest trends in the North American automotive industry, commenced on November 17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Celebrating its 116th edition, it ranks among the world’s most influential auto shows. A media preview set the stage on November 16.

Electric vehicles remained the main focus, similar to last year, but the presence of new hybrid models and internal combustion engine vehicles indicated a diversified interest.

Hyundai’s New Santa Fe XRT

Hyundai Motor America made waves by unveiling the all-new Santa Fe, tailored for active lifestyles, and the high-performance electric Ioniq 5N. The new Santa Fe, offering both combustion and hybrid powertrains, boasts a 2-inch longer body and wheelbase, stands 2.5 inches taller, and features a standard third row of seats. Its tailgate is now 6 inches wider and 2.5 inches higher, enhancing cargo space and accessibility.

The Ioniq 5N, set for a March 2024 release, promises an impressive 641 horsepower (478 kW) output through N Grin Boost, a two-stage inverter, and a new 84 kWh battery.

Jose Munoz, president and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, and Marty Mallick, Amazon’s vice president of Worldwide Business and Corporate Development, announced a landmark partnership between the two companies.

This collaboration will enable purchasing Hyundai vehicles via Amazon starting next year — a first for new vehicle sales on the online platform. While currently limited to viewing, customers will soon be able to select, purchase, and choose between local dealership pickup or delivery. Hyundai vehicles will also feature Alexa, Amazon’s AI voice assistant.

Kia America revealed the updated Sorento alongside its electric concept cars, EV3 and EV4. The new Sorento, with its vertical hood, boxy frame, and star map design, exudes strength. The X-Pro trim, designed for enhanced off-road performance and traction, joins the lineup. Available in five trims from January 2024, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will follow later in the year.

Kia’s EV4

The EV3, a mid-range electric concept car priced around $35,000, combines practicality with innovative interior design. The EV4 introduces a new style of electric vehicle, featuring a four-door design and next-generation eco-friendly materials. These concepts hint at potential mass production, akin to the EV9.

Genesis SUV GV80

Genesis also captivated attendees by unveiling a new 2025 model of its flagship luxury SUV, the GV80, alongside its first-ever coupe model.

Toyota’s 2025 New Camry

Toyota’s reveals included the all-new 2025 Camry, a mid-size sedan, and the hybrid SUV Crown Signia. The Camry, inspired by the new Prius design, now standardizes hybrid models over internal combustion engines.

With a 2.5-liter engine and advanced hybrid system, it delivers up to 232 horsepower and offers all-wheel drive. The Crown Signia, debuting as an SUV, boasts 243 horsepower and a fuel efficiency of 36 miles per gallon, with a spacious 6.5-foot cabin when rear seats are folded.

Lucid’s 2025 Gravity

Lucid’s 2025 Gravity, a seven-passenger SUV, and Subaru’s 2025 Forester were among other global premieres.

This year’s show expanded its interactive offerings, with Electric Avenue featuring a near-mile-long EV test track around the South Hall. Visitors can test drive models from Kia, Cadillac, Lucid, Chevrolet, Ford, Polestar, Porsche, Volvo, and more from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Additional test drives from Ford and Subaru are available at West Hall and Pico Boulevard.

Indoor attractions include driving tracks and test drives from Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, and Volkswagen, among others. The Bronco Camp offers an off-road experience on various terrains.

The Electrification Discovery Center provides insights into electric vehicles, including displays, comparisons, and information on ownership benefits, driving characteristics, charging options, and incentives.

The auto show also features the private collection of Hollywood actor and car enthusiast Kevin Hart, showcasing 10 models ranging from classic muscle cars to modern supercars, including a 2023 Ferrari 812.

Running through November 26, the event offers tickets at $27 for general admission, $15 for seniors 65 and older, and $10 for children aged 6-12. Visit laautoshow.com for more information.
