2017 Korea Week to “Promote Korea’s Prestige”

Various events to promote the contributions of the Korean-American community to the rest of the country will take place in multiple locations in Southern California from Oct. 2 to Oct. 10. The consulate office announced that a variety of events will be held to promote Korean history and culture to celebrate the Foundation Day of Korea on Oct. 3.

◆First attempt
“We’ve prepared a large-scale event to promote Korean history and culture in the U.S. to celebrate the Foundation Day,” said consular representative Ji-hye Moon, who planned the event. “We focused on promoting Korea to people in L.A. rather than making this a short term.”

The 20 events were planned in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, Korean School Association of America and USC.

◆Giving value to Korea’s Foundation Day
The National Foundation Day event will take place on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. in Downtown L.A. (InterContinental Hotel).

The event will provider ▶hanbok fashion show ▶Korean tea party ▶Classic performance ▶Promotion of Korea’s state-owned corporations in L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, California’s Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Leon and United States House of Representative Ed Royce will be among the 350 politicians at the event.

The consulate office also invited the veterans of the Korean War, represented by the organization Pioneer Society, to the event.

◆Korean community expected to take part
The upcoming events will be expected to engage the Korean community with the rest of Southern California.

The IRS will hold a Korean-American tax seminar in partnership with the Korean American Tax Research Forum and L.A.’s South Korean consulate office on Oct. 2. Koreans at the event will learn about digital money investment, reporting taxes and Korean-American real estate reform of the tax system. On Oct. 5, the L.A. Trade Academy will inform the attendees about trading between the two companies.

The Talking in Korean Contest on Oct. 3 will showcase the students at King Sejong Institute who will present materials about the Korean culture for three to five minutes. At the I Love Korean Food contest at Cal State L.A. on Oct. 4, the attendees will be given chances to taste Korean food. On the same day, the Korean Culture Center in L.A. will provide a viewing of film Taxi Driver, which centers on the story behind Korea’s civil uprising for democracy on May 18, 1980.
